Erosion Exposes Pipes, Concrete At Famed OC Surf Spot: Report

NEWPORT BEACH, CA — A famed surfing spot in Orange County is facing erosion triggered by recent hurricanes, KTLA reported.

The popular surf break The Wedge produces some of the largest waves in Southern California, but lately, the sand is washing out to sea, leaving pipes and chunks of concrete exposed in the sand.

"There's erosion with just rocks sticking out, you know, barbed wire even in some places, and it's just really dangerous," Newport Beach local Matthew Deller told KTLA.

Newport Beach City Council member Erik Weigand told KTLA that while the city has identified sand to move into the area, "getting is there is the real tricky part."
