Autopsies Released For 2 Students in Fatal Memorial Day Car Crash

Aurora Cabrera, 16 and Nozad al-Hamawendi, 17, did not have illegal or over-the-counter drugs in their blood streams, according to the Orange County Coroner.

Two of the five Irvine teens killed in a fiery Memorial Day in Newport Beach had no drugs in their systems, according to the Orange County Coroner, the Daily Pilot reports.

Recently released toxicology and autopsy reports show passengers Aurora Cabrera, 16, and Nozad al-Hamawendi, 17, did not have illegal or over-the counter drugs in their blood streams when the 2008 Infiniti sedan veered off the road and hit a tree in the center divider on Jamboree Road.

Cabrera had no alcohol in her system but had taken cough syrup. Trace amounts of alcohol were found in al-Hamawendi’s blood stream, but, the Daily Pilot reports, an expert said it should not be assumed al-Hamawendi had been drinking, as the traces could have been caused by fermentation.
