Fire Weather Returns: Red Flag Warning Issued For North Bay
Gusty offshore winds and very low humidity are expected this week in the North Bay, according to the National Weather Service.
NORTH BAY, CA – Fire weather conditions are expected to return this week, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a red flag warning for the North Bay mountains and other parts of the San Francisco Bay Area.
The red flag warning is in effect from 10 p.m. Wednesday until 7 a.m. Friday for the North Bay mountains and East Bay hills because of gusty offshore winds and very low humidity, according to the National Weather Service. Northeast wind gusts from 40 to 50 mph are possible in these areas with locally stronger gusts in the region's highest peaks. Humidity is expected to lower to 8-18 percent during afternoon hours with recoveries less than 30 percent.
The areas with the highest threats of fire danger are the hills of eastern Napa County as well as Mount Saint Helena, Mount Tamalpais, Atlas Peak, Mount Diablo and Mount Hamilton, according to the weather service. Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly, weather officials said.
