Looking for delicious jam with a local pedigree? Chris and Don Scioli of Novato were, so they came to our kitchen to witness production of Halo HomeMades strawberry jam with an eye to serving it in their new food truck.
“We want the truck to be a showcase for locally sourced products,” says Chris, who expects the “Jam Session” truck to hit the streets this summer serving deluxe peanut butter and jelly sandwiches with a side of local music.
As partners in Zan Media, the couple has years of experience producing video for events and businesses large and small. Chris says they look forward to the new venture as another avenue for being involved with their community.
The prototype truck, with a theme song to be recorded by Brittney Bexton, a San Marin High grad and Nashville musician, will have screens for showing music videos from local bands and offer a fresh lunch option with a nostalgic taste. “It’s kind of a throwback thing,” Chris says.
Promoting the new business will require video (of course!), so they carried a camera into our busy kitchen. Students at Fresh Starts Culinary Academy not only were making jam, but also pizza for Novato Charter School and appetizers for a catering event. Chris smelled something besides just the strawberries.
“If you could bottle that smell of the strawberry jam, coupled with the delightful scent of purpose and potential, you’d have Eau de New Beginnings! Better than Chanel No.5 any day of the week,” she says.
