Novato Trump Supporters Scuffle With Counter-Protesters

Supporters of President Trump were met by Black Lives Matter counter-protesters at a rally on a Novato overpass Friday.

NOVATO, CA — Tensions flared at a political rally Friday on an overpass along Highway 101, as supporters of President Donald Trump were met with counter-protesters.

The rally, held in support of Trump as well as the police, drew about 100 people to the Novato overpass, where they were met by another group supporting Black Lives Matter, the Marin Independent Journal reported.

Members of both groups reported incidents of battery among the participants, police said. Nobody was arrested or seriously injured.

The Trump rally was intended as a follow-up to a July 2 demonstration at the same spot. One counter-protester told the Journal that rallygoers shouted hateful comments and that one man in a Trump shirt threatened to shoot the counter-protesters.

"I was just going there to have a conversation," the protester, College of Marin student Kyra Bolden, said.
