But it was Safety Ryan Maxwell that would set the tone for evening. In a moment made for the movies, an Outlaw receiver would call out Maxwell chattering “you cannot cover me out here!” Maxwell would insist to his teammate they switch positions (from Safety to Corner) so he could cover the receiver one on one. They would be face to face as the continued to jab verbally at each other before the snap, on the very next play the Outlaw quarterback would go deep down the sideline, only to be turned away on a beautiful interception by Maxwell. The Pride sideline would erupt in celebration, as Maxwell would hold the ball up high in personal triumph.
The offense would get on track on the very next drive, as quarterback TJ Case would hit receiver Michael Verby for a 22-yard score. One drive later Case would be at it again this time connecting with receiver Johnny Howlin for a 16-yard strike, putting the Pride up 12-7 at the half.
The offense would keep the momentum going to start the second half as Running Back Andre Dunn would break loose for a 37-yard touchdown run to make the score 19-7. The defense would continue to control the game holding the Outlaws to just 10 plays and 7 yards in the third quarter. Case and Verby would be on the same page yet again this time on a fade route from 16 yards out to make the score 26-7 at the end of the three quarters.
The Marin County defense would show their muscle all night with interceptions from Ryan Maxwell and Bret Wallace, and two sacks apiece recorded by defensive ends Brian Nelson and Kyle Scott. The offense would cap off the night with Andre Dunn’s second TD run from 3 yards out.
Here is what Coach Jackson had to say, “This was obviously our most complete game of the season. We had a few skill players missing tonight and we saw a lot of guys step up on offense. Our offensive line has really started to gel. They haven’t given up a sack the last two weeks, and it’s really helped our offense find its rhythm the last few weeks. And I can’t say enough about TJ Case’s performance and growth the last month. He is making all the reads now. It’s amazing what we can do when we don’t put our defense in bad situations. I think we have given up less than 100 passing yards in the past two weeks combined. Front to back our defense has been phenomenal. Hopefully we can keep this momentum rolling into next week and we try to push for a playoff spot.”
