Broken Shed Brings Sights Of New Zealand To Oceanside

Broken Shed Vodka chose Oceanside for the first of many New Zealand-inspired art installations. Mural by local artist Skye Walker.

OCEANSIDE, CA — The city of Oceanside is filled with incredible views of sunny beaches and sparkling ocean waters. Now the city can add snow-capped mountains to the list of captivating sights thanks to a little help from Broken Shed Vodka.

Earlier this year local Encinitas-based painter & spray paint artist Skye Walker was commissioned by Broken Shed Vodka, New Zealand’s award-winning, super-premium vodka, to produce a vibrant mural in Oceanside.

Featuring themes and scenes of the striking natural landscape of Wanaka, New Zealand, the mural encompasses the essence of Broken Shed Vodka’s humble origins: the legendary red-roofed broken shed amongst pristine Lake Wakana; the snow-capped mountains of the Southern Alps; the native kiwi bird; and more.

Why was Harbor Liquor chosen as the location for the mural?
Harbor Liquor is a distributor of Broken Shed, and with their wall that faces HWY 101 in Oceanside, it was a perfect fit to do a mural inspired by the brand.

Was this done in collaboration with the City of Oceanside and their mural project or was this done independently?
This was done independently of the City of Oceanside.

Are you planning any other murals in our area?
As a professional artist and muralist, I create large-scale murals all over the USA. I have several in Oceanside and hope to create more in the near future.

How many other murals have been done as part of this campaign?
The mural is the first of many New Zealand-inspired art installations to come as Broken Shed Vodka seeks to directly invest in local, independent artists around the country. Watch a timelapse of the mural and hear from Skye Walker.

Locals can purchase Broken Shed Vodka through their online store or have Broken Shed delivered via Drizly. And of course, readers can purchase Broken Shed at Harbor Liquor located at 707 N Coast Hwy, Oceanside, CA.

About Broken Shed Vodka: Broken Shed Vodka is based in Wanaka, New Zealand. Distilled, crafted and bottled in New Zealand since its inception in 2009, its vodka draws upon the country’s natural aquifer and spring waters, without any hint of gluten, additives, sugars or GMOs. Since entering the U.S. market in June 2012, Broken Shed Vodka has won a legion of loyal fans and an impressive collection of awards. Broken Shed Vodka started in a 'broken' down old shed on Lake Wanaka where the formula was originally crafted and produced.
