Loud Noises Heard In North County From Camp Pendleton

The Marine base warned of "noise generating events."

CAMP PENDLETON, CA – Residents in North San Diego County may hear loud booming noises this week due to Camp Pendleton training exercises, according to a noise advisory.

Camp Pendleton officials announced they would be firing high explosive munitions into the Whiskey and Zulu impact areas between 6 a.m. and 11:59 p.m. Monday. The Whiskey Impact Area is about 7.3 miles from Fallbrook and about 9.9 miles from Oceanside, while the Zulu Impact Area is about 5 miles from Fallbrook and 6.6 miles from Oceanside.

Mortar and artillery fire exercises are scheduled between 6 a.m. and 11:59 p.m. through Friday in the same areas, according to the base. Depending on atmospheric conditions, communities as far as 50 miles away from the impact areas may be able able to hear the explosions.
