The Anaheim theme park has an agreement with the California Air Resources Board to retire the ride's gas-powered engines by 2027, Disneyland officials said.

What the cars will look like remains to be seen, though work is currently underway on the design — and more details are expected soon, officials said.

It was not immediately clear when the longstanding ride would shut down for the upgrades.

Autopia is one of Disneyland's oldest rides, having been in operation since the park opened in 1955.
