Victim Of Anaheim Dump Truck Apartment Crash Identified
Rory Antoine, 61, was killed when an out-of-control dump truck crashed through his apartment on Sunkist Street.

ANAHEIM, CA — One man was killed and two were injured when a dump truck smashed through a cinder block wall and two Anaheim apartment buildings Tuesday afternoon.
This followed a string of collisions that began on California state Route 57 and the nearby Lincoln Avenue off-ramp, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The victim was identified as Rory Antoine, 61, a resident in the first apartment building the dump truck crashed through, authorities said.

"That poor gentleman that was in the first or second building, minding his business. It's unfortunate," CHP Officer Florentino Olivera told KTLA Tuesday.
The driver of the truck was pulled from the wreckage after the vehicle came to a halt in the second apartment building. He was identified as Rafael Pacheco, 54, of Santa Ana. He was taken to University of California, Irvine Medical Center for treatment of moderate injuries, authorities said.

A driver of one of the vehicles involved in the string of collisions was also taken to UCI with complaints of pain, Olivera said.
The incident began shortly before 12:45 p.m. when a construction dump truck rocketed off Route 57's southbound Lincoln Avenue off-ramp and onto the street, crashing into one car on the off-ramp and another car on the city street.
The truck then barreled through a carport belonging to the Corsican Apartment Homes on Sunkist Street. The truck continued through the first apartment building with Antoine inside and a second apartment building in the same complex.
The destruction left in the dump truck's wake caused the CHP to issue a SigAlert that shut down both on- and off-ramps of Route 57 on Lincoln Avenue until 7 p.m.
Resident Patricia Johnson told KTLA that she came home in the afternoon to find the truck in her apartment and debris littered across the apartment complex. Her dog escaped, Johnson told KTLA, but Anaheim firefighters were able to locate the animal and return it to her.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
