Man Survives Fall Onto 57 Freeway: Cops

A man was pacing across a 57 Freeway overpass, while officers attempted to negotiate for him to come down, fell from the bridge.

ANAHEIM, CA — A man who was threatening to jump from the Lincoln Avenue overpass, above the 57 Freeway, dropped into northbound lanes, according to Anaheim Police.

According to reports, he may have slipped and fallen the 25 feet onto the freeway below.

The freeway and a stretch of Lincoln Avenue were closed for about 30 minutes while negotiators tried to talk the pacing man down, when he fell, California Highway Patrol Officer Tino Olivera said.

"It wasn't clear if he slipped or jumped, but he landed on his feet," Olivera said.

The man was taken to UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange and was expected to survive.

Both directions of Lincoln were closed at the 57 Freeway as well as both directions of the freeway itself, for about an hour during the event, backing up traffic to Katella, they said. By 2:30 p.m. a portion of the roadways had reopened, however traffic was slow to recover.
