Firefighters Bust Car Windows To Reach Hydrant In Orange County
Red curb no parking is not a suggestion in Anaheim. Firefighters busting car glass to do their work became a viral public service reminder.

ANAHEIM, CA — It takes more than a car parked in front of a hydrant to deter Anaheim Fire Department firefighters. On Tuesday, firefighters found their access to the water necessary to extinguish an apartment kitchen fire was blocked, Anaheim Fire and Rescue spokesman Daron Wyatt told Patch.
Firefighters arrived at the home on 1100 block of North West Street just before 6:30 a.m. and made the immediate decision to break windows to reach the water source, Wyatt said.
Though parking in a no-parking zone may have seemed a good idea at the time, but the driver in turn faced broken windows, as well as a citation and towing fees for blocking the hydrant.

One adult and six children were displaced in the blaze, and were being cared for by Red Cross, he told Patch. The Anaheim Fire Department shared the photos in hopes of educating the public.
Though the message has gone viral, there are some doubters out there that the department did the right thing.

Ever wonder what happens when a car is parked in front of a fire hydrant and a fire breaks out? Is a closer parking spot worth the broken windows and the citation and towing fees to @AnaheimPD? @City_of_Anaheim residents please do not park in fire lanes pic.twitter.com/Q96E4gfTOR
