Person Fatally Falls From Cliff In SMC: Police
Police initially sent out an alert stating they were shutting down the highway for a rescue operation.
PACIFICA, CA — A person fell from a cliff and died near Gray Whale Cove State Beach on Tuesday, police said.
At around 11:45 a.m. on Tuesday, San Mateo County Sheriff's Office deputies said they responded to Gray Whale Cove State Beach after receiving a call that someone had fallen from a cliff.
Deputies said the person had died. They have not released their identity at this time.

Witnesses told police they believe the person had experienced need a medical emergency.
To Coroner's Office will notify next of kin and determine the official cause of death.

Highway 1 was closed for about 30 minutes but has since been reopened.
