Bellamy Plays' Up' at Anaheim Junior Open

The sophomore Palisadian is still alive in the 18s singles and doubles divisions.

With each tournament he enters, seemingly gets better. He's only a sophomore in high school, yet he is playing liked a seasoned pro. The lifelong Palisadian continued his hot spring by advancing to the second week of the 18s division at the Anaheim Junior Open

Bellamy has been on fire for the last two months, winning a national singles title in Las Vegas, notching 10 wins over nationally-ranked players at the in Palm Springs, and winning the 16s doubles title two weeks ago at the in Carson.

What he pulled off last weekend, however, might just be the most impressive accomplishment of his blossoming career. Playing "up" a division in the 18-and-unders, he reeled off five victories and finds himself in the quarterfinals of the singles draw and the semifinals of the doubles against older, more experienced players.

The most remarkable aspect of Bellamy's weekend was that he upset the No. 1 seed in both singles and doubles. Reo Asami of Irvine has won the and has held the No. 1 position in the national junior rankings, but that didn't stop the unseeded Bellamy from winning 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. That shocking result came after straight-set victories over both Tyler Lu, also of Irvine, and Dante Saleh of Newport Beach.

In doubles, Bellamy partnered with San Diego's JC Aragone to take down two teams, including top-seeded Ace Matias and Shuhei Shibahara. Matias will be playing for BYU next year and Shibahara is a junior.

Bellamy will play fifth-seeded Caryl Hernandez of Fullerton in the singles quarterfinal Saturday at 12:30 p.m., with the winner meeting either Alex Scheinman of Los Angeles or Derek Klein of San Diego in the semifinals later that afternoon.

In doubles, Bellamy and Aragone will try to knock off fourth-seeded Jonathan Poon of Rancho Santa Margarita and Stefan Menichella of Irvine in the semifinals Saturday at 5:30 p.m. The doubles final is at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday. 

Kehrer Reaches Pac-10 Final in Ojai

Stanford University sophomore , who grew up in Pacific Palisades and trained at the , advanced to the finals of the men's Pacific 1o Invitational singles draw at the on Sunday. Kehrer lost to Warren Hardie of UCLA, 6-4, 6-2, at Libbey Park.

In the main draw of the Pac-10 doubles division, Kehrer and Cardinal freshman Daniel Ho lost in the quarterfinals to UCLA's Hardie and Amit Inbar, 8-4. Kehrer won the Invitational doubles crown last year.
