Bellamy Reaches Singles Final at Anaheim Open

The lifelong Palisadian upsets the No. 9 seed before falling in the 18s championship match.

Palisades High sophomore picked up where he left off at the last weekend, advancing to the finals in singles and the semifinals in doubles in the boys' 18-and-under division.

After knocking out No. 10-seeded Dante Saleh of Newport Beach and top-seeded Reo Asami of Irvine in singles the previous weekend, the unseeded Bellamy beat fifth-seeded Caryl Hernandez of Fullerton, 6-0, 6-4, in the quarterfinals Saturday morning, then defeated Derek Klein of San Diego, 2-6, 7-5, 6-1, in the semifinals that afternoon. In the Sunday morning final, Bellamy was trying to upset yet another seeded player, No. 9 Deiton Baughman of Carson, but Baughman prevailed, 6-3, 6-1.

In doubles, Bellamy partnered with San Diego's JC Aragone to reach the final four, where they fell to fourth-seeded Jonathan Poon of Rancho Santa Margarita and Stefan Menichella of Irvine on Saturday evening.
