Are you married or contemplating it someday? Read this first…

How much time in the day do you spend thinking about your relationship? Does marriage really work? Can we turn the divorce rate trend around? Are we as a society giving up on marriage? should we?

Let's face it, anyone married today in California or even contemplating tying the knot has the odds stacked against them. According to some more recent polls divorce rates in California exceed 60% and are even higher in second marriages.

Divorce has reached epidemic levels and is fueled and reinforced by endless media headlines regarding celebrity separations and breakups. It's in vogue - almost "the thing to do."

This trend has sadly delivered a massive blow to the way we look at marriage, leaving many feeling petrified to enter into a relationship in which so much time, emotion and yes, money has been invested. So much is at risk.

So what is going wrong? Why isn’t marriage working? Can we change the trend, at least in our own relationship? When is “too late” really “too late?”

Did you know that the reason given by most couples when asked why they got divorced is; “We just drifted apart.”

A relationship is fluid, taking on new shapes and forms along the way. Anyone expecting everything in the relationship to stay the same is just not being realistic. Both partners have to strive to take the journey together, making sure to keep their marriage fresh, discovering new things together and about each other. Ultimately marriage is like a garden. If you tend to it properly it will grow, blossom and bloom, neglect it, it becomes an unmanageable jungle.
