Blues Earn 2nd Win Against Santa Clarita Blue Heat
In their second match of the season, the Pali Blues defeated the Santa Clarita Blue Heat by a score of 2-0. Goals were scored by Ann Tangorra and Nikki Washington.
Santa Clarita, Calif. (May 20, 2012) – The Pali Blues visited the Santa Clarita Blue Heat in their second match of the 2012 W-League season and came away with a 2-0 win that puts them in first place in the Western Conference. Goals were scored by Ann Tangorra and Nikki Washington.
The Blues got off to a strong start and had the first significant look on goal when Liz Bogus took a left-footed shot from a tight angle on the left side of the goal. The shot force Blue Heat goalkeeper Cynthia Jacobo to drop quickly and stop the ball headed for the side netting.
After a few more dangerous opportunities from both teams, the Blues finally scored the first goal of the night in the 36th minute. Tangorra dribbled past three defenders and got a shot off, but it was saved by Jacobo. Tangorra was able to finish off the rebound, and the Blues headed into halftime with a 1-0 lead.

The break did not slow the Blues down, however. Just six minutes into the second half Nikki Washington doubled the lead on a solo effort. The Blues held on to their 2-0 lead as the Santa Clarita side pushed for a goal, but goalkeeper Anna Picarelli did a fantastic job of keeping them scoreless until the final whistle. She ended the game with six saves.
The Blues now shift their focus on the next game, the home opener against the LA Strikers, a team they have already defeated this season. The game is set to start at 7 p.m. at Palisades High School on Wednesday, May 30. Tickets are available at $10 for adults and $5 for children under 16 at the main entrance on game day one hour before kickoff.
