Dolphins Net All-League Soccer Honors

Palisades girls make Western first and second teams.

The All-Western League girls soccer teams were announced Friday afternoon and, not surprisingly, the varsity and junior varsity squads are full of Palisades High players.

Five Dolphins made the varsity First Team: junior forward Katie van Daalen Wetters, senior defender and co-captain Tiffany Falk, senior goalkeeper Kiki Bailey, senior forward Sam Elander and senior forward and co-captain Kathryn Gaskin. 

Van Daalen Wetters led the team with 19 goals and eight assists, Elander had 36 points and Bailey posted 19 shutouts and allowed just five goals. Molly Kornfeind had 17 points and Kathryn Gaskin finished with 15.

Making the Second Team were junior defender and co-captain Deborah Abber, sophomore midfielders Jackie Bamberger (15 points) and Grady Gitlin (15 points), senior defender Brittany Aliado and senior midfielder Meredith Kornfeind, who had six goals and five assists.

Making the junior varsity First Team were Lil Seeley, MacKenzie Gray, Lauren Pfahler, Emma Seeman, Emily Hardwick and Christina Stapke. Making the JV Second Team were Avid Khorramian, Ellen Ray, Hannah Nowikow and Santana Torchin.

First-year varsity coach Tianna Oliver guided the Dolphins to the Western League title and the City Section championship game, where they lost to El Camino Real in sudden death overtime. Palisades went 22-2 and scored 82 goals while allowing just five.
