Wasserman and Jeffers Make All-City Baseball Squad

Palisades High's sophomore outfielder is selected to the first team; senior pitcher is on second team.

The 2011 All-City Section baseball selections have been made and two Palisades High players are on the team.

Sophomore outfielder is a first team choice and senior pitcher is a second team pick. Wasserman was chosen co-Most Valuable Player in the Western League and Jeffers was Western League Pitcher of the Year.

Third baseman William Vazquez of City Division I champion San Fernando was chosen Player of the Year by a panel of sportswriters.

The All-City first team by position is as follows:

Pitchers: David Lira, San Fernando; Jose Cardona, El Camino Real; Angel Rodriguez, Chatsworth; Eric Magdaleno, Banning; Alberto Flores, Kennedy.

Catchers: Chris Whitmer, El Camino Real; Renae Martinez, San Pedro.

Infielders: William Vazquez, San Fernando; Danny Alcantar, Kennedy; Anthony Canjura, San Pedro; Alex Sawelson, Taft; Damon Akins, West Adams.

Utility: Robert Gsellman, Westchester (co-MVP of the Western League with Wasserman); Aaron Brown, Chatsworth; Kevin Torres, Birmingham.

Infielders: Angel Araujo, Wilson; Jonathan Linares, North Hollywood; Christian Dye, Los Angeles CES; Stephen Smith, Dorsey; Justin Marzett, Locke; Kenny Peoples-Walls, Westchester; Chris Naredo, Maywood Academy; Davod Garcia, San Fernando; Andrew Pacleb, Kennedy.

Utility: Jose Reyes, San Fernando; Jonathan Hernandez, Banning.

Outfielders: Randy Medellin, Birmingham; Evan Santa Cruz, Crenshaw. 

Palisades (16-13) won the Western League for the eighth straight time this spring but lost to San Fernando 11-5 in the first round of the Division I playoffs.
