Palm Springs preservation group steps in to help revive a piece of Palm Desert history ⋆ The Palm Springs Post (thepalmspringspost.com) — Palm Desert is moving forward with design work to potentially recreate its historic William F. Cody–designed city entry sign, after the City Council accepted up to $30,000 from the Palm Springs Preservation Foundation. A consultant will study the original sign, possible locations, and costs, with any actual construction requiring another council vote and future budget approval.

Know Before You Go: Heavy Construction Across the Valley This Week (nbcpalmsprings.com) — Palm Desert drivers should plan around ongoing Monterey Avenue pavement work between the I-10 overpass and Gerald Ford Drive, with Market Place closed all week and traffic pushed onto nearby streets. Officials recommend using Dick Kelly or Gateway drives instead of Dinah Shore at Tony Drive and warn that shopping center parking will be tight, while additional paving and restriping projects continue in Palm Springs and Indio.

California regulators weigh new standards to improve wireless service, emergency communications (kesq.com) — State regulators briefed Coachella Valley leaders in Palm Desert on proposed standards to improve everyday wireless service and keep 911 and other communications running during emergencies. The California Public Utilities Commission is taking public comments now and will hold a resiliency workshop on October 30, with potential changes affecting how local networks handle heat, flooding, and power outages.

Gonzaga women's basketball announces 2026-2027 nonconference schedule (krem.com) — Palm Desert basketball fans can look forward to Gonzaga facing Michigan State in a women's and men's doubleheader at Acrisure Arena on December 19. The game is part of Gonzaga's newly announced 2026–27 nonconference schedule, which also includes matchups against Stanford, Arizona State, and several home contests as the Zags return much of last season's successful roster.
