Cambridge Fire: Marin Co. Blaze Is At 75% Containment

BREAKING: Cal Fire crews returning from the Loma Fire In Santa Cruz mountains stopped to aid Novato firefighters.

MARIN COUNTY, CA – A small vegetation fire that broke out in Novato Monday is 75 percent contained, Novato Fire District officials said this morning.

"Firefighters worked through the night to make sure it stayed in place," the Novato Fire Protection District said.

One firefighter suffered first- and second-degree burns to the leg and was released from a hospital following treatment.

"We were pretty worried about her when she left the scene," district spokeswoman Sandy Wargo said.

The fire was reported around 6:30 p.m. in the vicinity of Sunset Parkway and Cambridge Street, and was holding at roughly four or five acres as of 10:45 p.m.

The fire could have grown larger if not for quick response from Cal Fire personnel, Wargo said.

"Cal Fire had a strike team coming back from Santa Cruz. As they were coming over the overpass they saw an ambulance going toward a call. They saw the smoke and started going towards the flashing lights, so they were one of the first units on the scene," Wargo said.

Firefighters are expecting several days of hot weather, and Wargo reminded area residents to be especially cautious and fire-safe this week.

The cause of the Cambridge Fire remains under investigation.
