Bicyclist Dies In Collision With Semi On Lakeville At US 101: PD
Police asked drivers to avoid Lakeville Street at the southbound U.S. Highway 101 on- and off-ramps while the collision was investigated.
PETALUMA, CA — A man riding a bicycle was killed in a collision with a semi truck Wednesday on Lakeville Street at southbound U.S. Highway 101 in Petaluma, police said. Officers responded at 12:19 p.m. Wednesday to a report that a bicyclist was hit by a vehicle in the 1000 block of Lakeville Street.
When officers arrived the bicyclist was deceased.
As officers spoke to witnesses at the scene, they were told some of the witnesses had flagged down the drivers of two semi trucks seen in the area at the time of the collision, Petaluma police Lt. Brian Miller said.

"Traffic officers further determined that both the victim bicyclist and the semi-truck were traveling eastbound on Lakeville Street toward the 101 freeway at the time of collision," Miller said.
The crash remains under investigation and police do not currently have any indication alcohol was a factor.
The collision investigation caused the intersection to be blocked; Petaluma police said local motorists should use South McDowell to get around the traffic delay.
Commercial drivers needing to travel eastbound on Lakeville Highway / Highway 116 were advised to continue southbound on US 101 to eastbound Highway 37 as an alternate route.
Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to please call the Petaluma Police Department Traffic Unit at 707-778-4372.
