PHOTOS: Beating The Heat In Petaluma

Breaking: As a heat advisory continued Thursday for Petaluma and much of the North Bay, here's how some dealt with the high temperatures.

PETALUMA, CA -- Thursday marked nearly a week of record-breaking high temperatures across much of the Bay Area, and Petaluma was no exception.

Patch photographer Al Francis hit the streets to find out how locals were coping with the extreme heat in Petaluma, where, according to the National Weather Service, a high of 101 Thursday was possible.

Some chose to cool off at the Petaluma Swim Center, 900 E. Washington St., while others braved the heat at the Sonoma-Marin Fair.

In the early afternoon, the city announced that the Petaluma Community Center would be open for use a cooling center until 6 p.m. Thursday. Petaluma police urged residents to stay hydrated, and urged anyone looking for a safe place to take refuge from the heat to utilize the center at 320 N. McDowell.

A National Weather Service heat advisory was expected to remain in effect until 9 p.m. Thursday.
