Cambridge Fire in Novato 100 Percent Contained

BREAKING: Fire investigators have also determined that the blaze was human-caused.

NOVATO, CA — A vegetation fire that erupted Monday night in Novato, charring more than five acres and injuring a firefighter, was 100 percent contained Tuesday afternoon, a fire official said.

“We had a flare-up about an hour ago; the good news was we were there,” said Novato Fire District Spokeswoman Sandy Wargo.

According to Wargo, although the Cambridge Fire, which broke out about 6:30 p.m. on a hill located off Sunset Parkway near Cambridge Street, is 100 percent contained, crews will remain on scene until it is also 100 percent extinguished.

“We had firefighters all over the hill today putting out hot spots,” Wargo told Patch. “That is why we stay there: we expect that to happen, that is normal.”

Also on Tuesday, Novato fire investigators determined that the fire was human-caused, although they have not pinpointed exactly what caused it to break out, she said.

Monday night, a female firefighter suffered first- and second-degree burns to her legs in the fire. She was treated at a Kaiser hospital and released late Monday.

No other injuries have been reported.

No homes have been damaged in the fire, which did prompt the brief evacuation Monday night of some 15 residences.

Another moment of panic set in for some residents when the flare-up occurred Tuesday, Wargo said.

She assured the community that crews will remain on scene until “we douse everything.”
