Shooting Injures 2 in Valley Ford, 1 Critically: Sheriff's Office

UPDATED: Two men suffered gunshot wounds when a fight broke out at an after-party for a gender reveal party, the sheriff's office said.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA — UPDATED: Two people were hospitalized with serious gunshot wounds suffered in a shooting Saturday night west of Petaluma, Rohnert Park and Cotati in the unincorporated community of Valley Ford, according to the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office. The shooting was reported at about 9:40 p.m. at a residence in the 12000 block of Valley Ford Road, sheriff's Spokeswoman Misti Wood said.

Multiple gunshots were reported, and deputies arrived to find an estimated 30 people in and around a house. Wood said members of the crowd — they were attending the after-party of a gender reveal party held earlier in the day at Finley Park in Santa Rosa — directed deputies to two victims.

One of the victims, a man found in a car who was suffering from a serious head wound, was airlifted by a medical helicopter crew to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The second victim, also a man, was found in the backyard suffering from a leg wound. He was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital.

As of 4:45 p.m. Monday, both victims were still alive, Wood said in an update.

"The head wound is life-threatening, but the leg wound is not," Wood said.

Once the victims were en route to the hospital, deputies began searching for the shooting suspects. After deputies confirmed the suspects left the property, they searched the area on the ground and by air with Henry 1 but were not able to find them, Wood said.

After interviewing party-goers, deputies determined a fight occurred which led to the two men being wounded. As of Monday, detectives were still investigating how the men were wounded and why the fight broke out, Wood said.

"Detectives have served search warrants on the house and approximately six cars that were at the scene," Wood said.

More information is expected to be released Tuesday.

In the meantime, anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Sheriff's Office Investigations at 707-565-2185 and ask for Sgt. Cutting.
