SRJC Students Can Ride Free On SF Bay Area Public Transit

With fall 2022 pilot program, ​Santa Rosa Junior College students can score free Clipper BayPass cards for BART, Caltrain, SMART & more.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA — In a two-year pilot program starting fall 2022 between Santa Rosa Junior College, Bay Area public transit agencies and the Metropolitan Transportation Commission, students at SRJC are eligible for free Clipper BayPass cards, allowing free rides on transit systems throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.

The Clipper BayPass enables unlimited travel on SF Bay Area transit services throughout the region's nine counties. SRJC students will remain eligible through the summer of 2024, as long as they remain enrolled at SRJC, college officials said.

    "The intention of the program is to study the effect of an all-transit pass on public transit use," SRJC administration said.

    Along with granting access for SRJC students, the program extends to those at San Francisco State University, San Jose State University and the University of California’s Berkeley campus, with later expansion planned for select residents of San Mateo County housing complexes, officials said.

    "While all students at SRJC will be offered the Clipper BayPass, only about a quarter of students at the other campuses will be invited to participate in the pilot program," the college said.
