Two Males, 19 and 17, Arrested After A Petaluma Grandma's Car Was Stolen

The incident occurred today starting on D Street.

Two males, 19 and 17 years old, were arrested today in connection with a Petaluma grandmother’s stolen vehicle.

Petaluma police received a call at 12:20 p.m. from a caller stating someone just drove off from the 500 block of D Street in their grandmother’s blue 2006 Nissan 350Z.

The driver of the stolen vehicle, later identified as a 17 year old from Petaluma, allegedly got stuck got in traffic approximately one block away near 5th and D streets as he was being pursued by the citizen caller and another witness, police said.

The teen reportedly ditched the vehicle and fled on foot -- still pursued by the pair, who caught up with him in a D Street yard and held him until officers arrived, according to the department.

Witnesses reported at least two other males were involved in the theft, and police identified one of the suspects as Denikko Dewalt, 19, of Petaluma.

After the suspects abandoned the car, a relative of the victim got in the stolen vehicle, located Dewalt in the area of Sprint and B streets and started filming him.

Police said Dewalt ran toward the vehicle, punched the windshield and threw several rocks at the car. He was subsequently was taken into custody nearby.

The driver of the vehicle was not injured. No witnesses positively identified Dewalt as one of the subjects who ran from the original car theft, police said.

Dewalt was arrested by officers on Douglas and Spring streets and booked on suspicion of felony vandalism, with bail set at $5,000. Police said he had a laceration on his hand from hitting the windshield.
