A man and woman killed in a fire in East Oakland last week have been identified, according to the Alameda County coroner’s bureau. John Weathers, 57, and Althia Weathers, 62, died after a kitchen fire reported at 6:50 p.m. last Wednesday at a home in the 1700 block of 89th Avenue, according to Oakland fire officials.
The couple is listed at an address on that block. The fire, which was quickly extinguished once firefighters arrived, started on a pot on the stove in the kitchen and may have been smoldering a long time before it was reported, fire officials said.
