UPDATE: Police Activity Prompts Brief Lockdown of Castro Valley Middle School
Sheriff's officials say the lockdown was precautionary and has since been lifted.

A middle school in Castro Valley was locked down briefly this morning as precaution while Alameda County Sheriff’s deputies searched for a burglary suspect reported in the area.
Just before 10 a.m., Castro Valley News reported via Facebook that school district officials confirmed Creekside Middle School was locked down.
Alameda County Sheriff’s Office spokesman JD Nelson said the lockdown was very brief and has since been lifted after the concern that the suspect was near the school was deemed unfounded.
School district officials say Walt Lewis, Principal of Creekside Middle School, released the following message to parents with details of the lockdown:

Hello Creekside Community,
Today (5-26-15), the Alameda County Sherriff’s Department called for an on campus lockdown. Our staff and students responded quickly to the call for a lockdown and within minutes all students and staff members were inside classrooms behind locked doors. This was a precautionary measure in response to police activity on Heyer Avenue and at no time were students and staff in danger. The lockdown lasted approximately 25 minutes during second period. A police officer from the Alameda Sheriff’s Office was on site soon after the lockdown was called. Again, this was a precautionary measure due to police activity in the vicinity. Our school day is continuing on and we have resumed our normal schedule.

Although this event has been safely resolved, several students may experience anxiety due to the situation. Lockdowns can be very stressful for students. This type of event may bring with it strong emotional responses for some students. If this is the case for your child, please contact one of our school counsellors, Carina Fuentes (6th Grade Counsellor), or Karena Doan (7th/8th Grade Counsellor).
I am certainly grateful to our staff and students for their quick response.
Sincerely,
Walter Lewis. Principal
Creekside Middle School
