Oakland Police Chase Ends With 3 Suspects In Custody

A helicopter hovered for some time over the area where the suspect vehicle crashed near Lakeshore and Lake Park avenues.

OAKLAND, CA — Police arrested three people Tuesday evening after the trio led officers on a short vehicle pursuit, which ended in a crash near Oakland's Lake Merritt.

At 4:24 p.m., officers attempted to stop a car near 98th and Edes avenues in connection with a firearm offense, police said. The car, however, failed to stop and a pursuit ensued.

The suspect vehicle then crashed near Lakeshore and Lake Park avenues.

As one of the suspects was fleeing from the suspect vehicle following the crash, a car struck the suspect. That suspect was taken to a hospital with critical injuries. Officers were ultimately able to take all three suspects into custody. Their identities were not released.

Officers were able recover more than one firearm, according to police.

During the investigation, police and the California Highway Patrol closed the off-ramp from Interstate Highway 580 at Lakeshore and Lake Park avenues.
