Dead Whale Washes Ashore Near Rodeo
The Marine Mammal Center sent investigators to the scene.

RODEO, CA — A dead whale has washed ashore near Rodeo, on the Contra Costa County coast on San Pablo Bay near the Carquinez Strait.
There is no information yet on the cause of death of the whale, or how the whale will be disposed.
The Marine Mammal Center sent a team to the scene.

"The findings of these investigations are incredibly valuable as it is shared with policy-makers to help find long-term environmental solutions to try and help prevent these incidents in the future," Chief Research Pathologist Padraig Duignan said in a statement.
Gray whales are a bellwether of ocean health, according to the Marin Headlands-based center.

The Marine Mammal Center confirms a gray whale carcass is partially submerged along the San Pablo Bay shoreline near Rodeo. The Center & its partners @calacademy are planning a response to perform a necropsy, or animal autopsy, in an attempt to determine the cause of death.

Two dead whales were found in San Francisco Bay in mid-March. Necropsies were performed on both of those whales, year-old grey whales. There were no signs of injuries.
Multiple whale deaths have also been reported in Southern California.
