City of Pleasanton Seeking Artists to Paint Utility Boxes for 'Project Paint Box'

The deadline for artists to submit their design is Friday, August 29 by 5 p.m.

The City of Pleasanton's Community Services Department, Civic Arts Division is proud to introduce Project Paint Box. Project Paint Box is a public art beautification program celebrating local artwork and encouraging Bay Area artists to share their creativity throughout the City of Pleasanton.

Vibrant artwork helps deter unsightly graffiti and creates pleasant spaces for residents and visitors alike. We invite artists to participate in this program designed to transform common utility boxes into works of art, which will add beauty to the City of Pleasanton streetscapes for years to come.

The first phase of this program will include six (6) traffic utility boxes located in and around the downtown area. Artists from the following Bay Area Counties are encouraged to apply: Alameda, Contra Costa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara and Solano. Design themes that embrace Pleasanton's culture, history, flora and fauna or have a strong Pleasanton connection are preferred.

The deadline for artists to submit their design is Friday, August 29 by 5pm. In September, the Civic Arts Commission will review submitted work and recommend final designs to the City Council for their review in October. Work could begin as early as the end of October.

Interested individuals may donate to Project Paint Box by underwriting the cost of the box. In return, they may select a particular artwork from the portfolio of accepted work and have their name added to the bottom corner of the box.

This is an amazing opportunity for everyone in our community to join together as an artist or donor to create exciting and beautiful works of art for all to enjoy. For more information about the Call to Artists, donor opportunities or to obtain an application packet, visit our website, www.cityofpleasantonca.gov or contact Michele Crose, Community Services Manager at (925)931-5347 or atmcrose@cityofpleasantonca.gov.
