Man Arrested After Brutally Attacking His Mom: Pleasanton Police

Police said the victim suffered major head injuries during the attack, which was reported in the Stanford Valley Care Hospital parking lot.

PLEASANTON, CA — A 26-year-old Livermore man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon after police say he attacked his mother while in the Stanford Valley Care Hospital parking lot in Pleasanton Monday morning. Police were alerted to the alleged attack at about 6:45 p.m. Before officers arrived, the suspect, later identified as Livermore resident Brian Bertoli, fled the area on foot.

Officers found Bertoli, who was allegedly covered in blood, in front of 3657 Old Santa Rita Road. He was "agitated," resisted arrest and officers used a Taser in order to take him into custody, according to police. Bertoli was booked into the Santa Rita Jail in Dublin on suspicion of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, assault with intent to commit mayhem and resisting arrest.

Bertoli’s mother was initially treated at Stanford Valley Care Hospital for major head injuries, including a large laceration over her left eye that appeared to be caused by a sharp object, swelling around her eyes and nose and cuts to her hands. She was taken to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley due to the severity of her injuries.
