Man, Teen Suspected of Prowling Arrested in Pleasanton

PLEASANTON, CA — Two Palo Alto residents were arrested on suspicion of prowling in a Pleasanton neighborhood, police officials said. A resident called police just before 4 a.m. on Saturday to report a suspicious car without its headlights on driving slowly down Hamilton Way and Arlington Drive. Investigating officers discovered that several cars in the area appeared to have been rummaged through.

According to police, officers searched the neighborhood and contacted Daniel Vasquez, 25, and a 16-year-old boy, both Palo Alto residents, who were found nearby inside a car that did not belong to them. Police said Vasquez was found to be in possession of methamphetamine. Vasquez and the teen were arrested on suspicion of prowling.

About two hours later, police found a car in the neighborhood that matched the description given earlier by the resident. Officers tried to stop the 2005 Nissan Altima, which had two occupants, but it fled, striking a patrol car before driving onto I-680 at Bernal Avenue. Dangerous safety conditions, including speed and weather, force officers to terminate the pursuit and the car was last seen driving southbound on I-680 and Sunol Boulevard with its lights off. A check of the license plate revealed that the owner of the car lives in the same Palo Alto complex as Vasquez, police said.
