Sunflower Hill Community For Special-Needs Adults On Track

Irby Ranch in Pleasanton will be among the first such communities in the Tri-Valley and one of the first in Northern California.

PLEASANTON, CA – Sunflower Hill at Irby Ranch, a residential community for individuals with developmental delays, is proceeding with its plans to be Pleasanton's first-ever such housing development.

Modesto-based Huff Construction Co. recently was named as the general contractor for Sunflower Hill Irby Ranch, according to a report in Pleasanton Weekly, with groundbreaking set for March. The estimated move in date is March 2020, Sunflower Hill officials said.

The Pleasanton City Council approved unanimously in February 2018 the development application and support of a financing plan for Sunflower Hill's multi-unit residential community for individuals with special needs.

The Irby Ranch site is located within Meritage’s 14-acre The Homestead at Irby Ranch single-family home development, just north of downtown Pleasanton off Stanley Boulevard and will be among the first special-needs communities in the Tri-Valley and one of the first in Northern California, according to officials.

The development will include 31 individual housing units, a multi-purpose community space for dining and such activities as movie nights, dances and family gatherings, plus a craft room, fitness room and a commercial kitchen for tenant and community meals.

The non-profit Sunflower Hill works to enhance lifestyles for those with special needs by creating a social, vocational, educational and recreational programs.

Meanwhile in Livermore, Sunflower Hill - Livermore, another planned residential community designed for 44 individuals with developmental disabilities, was approved by the city of Livermore’s Historical Preservation Committee as well as the city Planning Commission in 2016 and approved in 2017 by the Livermore City Council. The community is proposed for a 2.2-acre parcel on First Street, near Mines Road and across from the Lowes and Safeway shopping centers.
