SUV Plows Into Pleasanton Restaurant; 3 People Hurt: Police

An SUV drove through the glass door of The Everest Momo, a Nepalese restaurant on Main Street, on Sunday afternoon.

PLEASANTON, CA — Three people sustained minor injuries after a car crashed into a restaurant on Pleasanton’s Main Street Sunday afternoon, the police department confirmed.

An SUV crashed through the glass door of The Everest Momo, a Nepalese restaurant on 201 Main Street, at about 1:50 p.m. Sunday, PPD spokesperson Teri Yan told Patch.

Surveillance images show the car driving into the restaurant and knocking over tables and chairs, according to NBC Bay Area. Three people were injured, and those injuries were treated by firefighters, according to Yan. No one was hospitalized.

Emergency crews eventually extracted the vehicle from the building, and a building inspector was called to review the structural damage.

An employee told Patch that the crash caused "significant damage to the to the glass, furniture, and cutlery" and caused stains on the carpet. The restaurant is currently assessing damage, working with its insurance company and installing new tables and chairs. The owner estimates the restaurant could reopen in about two months.

The accident was reportedly caused when the driver mistook the gas pedal instead of the brake, the owner said. The driver stayed and cooperated with police.

Police continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and it is unknown whether charges will be filed, Yan said.
