Search For Missing Quicksilver Exec Called Off

The search for missing Quicksilver and Boardriders executive Pierre Agnes has been called off, officials say.

NEWPORT BEACH, CA — The search for the 54-year-old missing Quicksilver and Boardriders executive who disappeared from his boat in the south of France Tuesday has been called off, according to officials.

Pierre Agnes left to go fishing in his 36-foot boat on Tuesday morning. Later that day, he sent a message to port authorities indicating that he was forced to delay his return because of thick fog. His Mascaret III, was found flooded and washed ashore at 9:30 a.m. on Boiteux beach. No one was found with the vessel.

Authorities searched the area by air and sea, but have called off the search as of late Wednesday.

Agnes managed the Orange County company from Quiksilver's European headquarters in Saint-Jean-de-Luz, a small beach town on France's border with Spain, according to media sources. He was a surfing champion who joined Quiksilver in 1998, only to rise up and take the role of chief executive in 2014 of surfwear retailer Boardriders, which owns Roxy and DC shoes along with Quiksilver.
