1. Local school districts awarded prestigious grant to establish (actionnewsnow.com) — Future teachers in and around Redding now have access to a paid residency program that offers a $25,000 stipend and a full year of mentored classroom experience. Columbia Elementary School District and regional education offices are partnering with CSU Chico and Teachers College of San Joaquin to tackle rural teacher shortages and boost retention across Northern California. 
2. ABC Announces On-Sale Liquor Licenses for Shasta County (einpresswire.com) — Restaurant owners and entrepreneurs in the Redding area can soon apply for a new on-sale general liquor license for Shasta County, with applications accepted Sept. 14–25, 2026 at the ABC's Redding District Office on Churn Creek Road. Only one priority application per applicant is allowed, with a $19,840 fee and possible virtual drawing if demand exceeds supply. Successful applicants then have 90 days to complete formal licensing.
3. Laundromats generate $5B a year as renters still seek in-unit washers, dryers (krcrtv.com) — If you rely on laundromats in Redding, Westside Wash says rising utility costs may soon force price hikes, even as they try to stay affordable. Owner Dusti Kenyon breaks down what a typical family spends each week and how higher operating expenses are squeezing both customers and small laundry businesses.
4. Shasta County releases August unclaimed funds list; claims due in just over a month (krcrtv.com) — If you live in or around Redding, Shasta County may be holding unclaimed money in your name, but you must file a verified claim by Sept. 28, 2026. Residents, businesses, and trusts can search the county's August unclaimed funds list online, then contact the listed department to start the process. You can also check California's statewide unclaimed property database for additional funds.
5. How The Passion Translation's Problems Hid in Plain Sight (christianitytoday.com) — Bethel Church in Redding has stopped selling The Passion Translation after new, detailed plagiarism allegations against its creator, Brian Simmons. The piece explains years of scholarly criticism, questions about Simmons' language credentials, and why the translation still gained a large following in charismatic circles despite mounting concerns.
