New Redding housing project with 143 large lots moving forward (redding.com) — A 143-lot subdivision called The Oasis has cleared the Redding Planning Commission, moving a big northeast Redding housing project closer to construction. Lots will be large enough for many ADUs, but neighbors raised traffic and wildlife concerns. Commissioners added a requirement for a Crotch's bumble bee survey before any building starts.

2. Redding vehicle thefts drop, but records reveal streets and addresses hit most (krcrtv.com) — Vehicle thefts are down in Redding compared with last year, but new police records show 90 thefts since January still scattered across the city, with hotspots on East Cypress Avenue, Dana Drive, Bechelli Lane and Cascade Boulevard. Thieves are targeting everything from cars to U-Hauls, especially Fords, Hondas and Toyotas. Police urge residents to lock vehicles and hide valuables.

After Decades, Shasta County John Doe (1990) is Identified (dnasolves.com) — After 36 years, investigators have identified skeletal remains found on a Sacramento River island near Redding as those of James Homer Wright, a Pit River Tribe member who vanished after bicycling to a nearby gas station from a Redding home in 1988. Using advanced DNA and forensic genealogy through Operation Spirit Return, federal and county teams finally connected the remains to Wright's family.

Redding Veterans Home shares wildfire safety plans amid peak fire season (krcrtv.com) — Redding Veterans Home staff are sharpening wildfire evacuation plans to protect residents during peak fire season, including go-bags with medications and detailed medical information. They coordinate with sister facilities for potential relocations, monitor local fires via apps, and share updates quickly with families. Regular emergency drills aim to keep everyone ready if a blaze threatens Redding.
