Route 66 Rendezvous Returns

Saturday's events started early for autograph seekers and continued for those who loved the sounds of loud engines and classic rock 'n' roll.

The Route 66 Rendezvous was in full swing on Saturday, as hundreds of classic cars cruised down San Bernardino streets. There were several events throughout the day, which started early.

Several hundreds streamed through Saturday morning for autographs from National Hockey League Hall of Famer and retired Los Angeles Kings legend Luc Robitaille, and three-time X Games gold medalist and two-time Formula Drift champion Tanner Foust. The event was held near the Family Fun Center.

In Friday night's Neon Light Contest, the winners were Rick and Terr Rodriguez with dog charming in a '49 Oldsmobile in the Old Skool category and Rogelio Villanueva in a '64 VW with Mini VW on roof in the LED category.

In the San Manuel Indian Bingo and Casino Poker Run, the winners were:

  • First, Desi Nasciemento, from Hesperia, wins $500 with four 7's driving his '70 Mustang.
  • Second, Phil Weber from Grand Terrace, wins $300 with a flush in his '64 Pontiac Tempest.
  • Third, Micah Herrera, from Highland, wins $200 with 3 Kings in his '66 Chevy Impala Convertible
  • Favorite Poker Run Stop, Victoria Woods Senior Center for the third year in a row.

In the open header competition, David Wishaw, of Phelan, won for the third year in a row in the loudest category. Wishaw cranked his '68 Chevelle up to 118 decibels. Jim Bishop, of Apple Valley, with his '40 Willy's Pick Up, won the best sounding honor.

A "Run with the Cops" run and community walk is scheduled bright and early this morning. Registration starts at 7 a.m. Check out the flyers included with the photos for more information.
