California is prone to earthquakes. But its residents have also endured floods and fire. Even heat waves that strain power grids and cause outages are cause to break out emergency supplies. The event does not have to be big and destructive to warrant being prepared.

And then there is the emotional toll which is hard to measure. Security cameras and some people have captured on video the impact of natures wrath. We include them with this story.
