City to Release Draft Environmental Report for Waterfront Development

An ambitious plan to revitalize Redondo Beach's aging oceanfront commercial areas moves closer to fruition. Public review meetings are set.

A 63-day review process for the Draft Environmental Impact Report for revitalizing the city’s aging waterfront area will be submitted to the Redondo Beach City Council at its regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday. The meeting begins at 6 p.m., the same time the DEIR will be released online to the public, in City Council Chambers, 415 Diamond Street.

Public meetings for community feedback, which generally will include presentation of the results of the environmental analysis and public comment period, will be held on

  • Nov. 21: 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at Crowne Plaza Hotel, 300 N. Harbor Drive
  • Dec. 9: 6-9 p.m. at RB’s Main Library, 403 N. Pacific Coast Highway
  • Jan. 9: 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at Crowne Plaza Hotel, 300 N. Harbor Drive.

Public comment on the DEIR ends at 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 19, according to the city website.

CenterCal, the El Segundo-based developer behind the proposed The Waterfront which seeks to create a “mixed-use commercial project” that “combines community and family-friendly activity centers with world-class amenities,” according to the developer’s website, expects the completed project to reinvigorate the Redondo Beach Pier and nearby areas including the International Boardwalk, Seaside Lagoon and marina areas.
