Driver's Death Investigated As Murder Following Redondo Beach Crash

REDONDO BEACH, CA — An altercation between two men could have caused a car crash that left one man dead after he crashed into several parked cars, Redondo Beach police said.
According to the Redondo Beach Police Department, officers received a report of a crash in the area of Beryl Street and North Broadway at 10:09 p.m. on Sunday. When police arrived at the scene, they located a driver who collided with several parked vehicles along the street, authorities said.
Redondo Beach Fire Department paramedics treated the driver at the scene before transporting him to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Preliminary investigation results revealed that before the collision, the driver was involved in an altercation near the parking lot at 181 North Harbor Drive.
"There was suspicion that they suffered injury that may have caused the death," RBPD said in a statement.

During additional investigation of the case, detectives located 29-year-old Donavan Lamont Walters and arrested him on suspicion of first-degree murder in connection to the driver's death.
Authorities presented the case to the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office for filing consideration and, based on the review, Walters was released pending additional investigation of the case.
