REDONDO BEACH, CA — Smoke that was seen for miles in the South Bay, from the El Segundo Chevron refinery, prompted calls to the fire department on Tuesday morning, according to officials.

The steady stream of black smoke from the refinery in the 300 block of West El Segundo Boulevard was part of routine operations according to Chevron El Segundo spokesperson Jeff Wilson.

Chevron officials said a mechanical issue was to blame for the large flame and smoke and they are trying to remedy it.
