Judge Postpones Measure C Final Ruling To Next Year

The $400 million makeover to Redondo Beach waterfront has been called the "mall​ by the sea" by slow-growth activists.

REDONDO BEACH, CA – A judge delayed the final decision Tuesday on the controversial Measure C initiative – which sets restrictions on the planned $400 million makeover to Redondo Beach waterfront – until next year.

Superior Court Judge James C. Chalfant decided to delay the final ruling in CenterCal's first lawsuit against the city until the California Coastal Commission’s legal counsel gives input on whether the ballot measure, according to Daily Breeze.

Measure C passed in March with 57.1 percent of the vote, and tightens zoning restrictions on development in the Redondo Beach harbor, making the planned takeover of 36 acres from Seaside Lagoon to the pier near impossible.

The project has stirred controversy, facing strong opposition from slow-growth activists who refer to the project as the "mall by the sea," according to The Daily Breeze.
