Redondo Beach Recall Seemingly Fails: Preliminary Results

Final results will be announced on Oct. 27 according to the city clerk.

REDONDO BEACH, CA — Preliminary results for Wednesday's special election in Redondo Beach show Measure E and the recall attempt of District 4 Councilmember Zein Obagi failing by a wide margin.

For the recall vote, 485 votes were in favor, 26 percent of the total, and 1,363 votes were against, 73 percent of the total. Obagi's challenger Tonya McKenzie received 545 votes.

"I am feeling confident that our team did the best that they could and put everything left everything on the field," McKenzie said. "In regards to win or loss, you know, Mr. Obagi, had a lot of money."

For Measure E, there were 2,376 yes votes, 24 percent of the total, and 7,210 no votes, 75 percent of the total.

According to City Clerk Eleanor Manzano, as of Wednesday night, there were more than 9,600 ballots cast in total with more than 1,700 ballots to be counted. The remaining ballots will be counted on Oct. 27 at 1 p.m. Manzano said.
