South Bay Weekend Guide

“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of light, it was the season of darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair.”
That Charles Dickens quote sure sums up the current state of affairs, doesn’t it? Some people are thriving while others are at their wits end. I’m seeing and hearing things about family, friends and acquaintances I would never have imagined. For instance, people that previously couldn’t hold onto a buck suddenly have some savings, while famously frugal individuals are indulging in online shopping sprees; those incapable of boiling water BC (before corona virus) are becoming familiar with that room called a kitchen; slobs have become neatniks and the organized have gradually descended into disarray; some fitness junkies have turned into couch potatoes, whereas former sloths are experiencing newfound vitality; a handful of high maintenance types are discovering the joy of less grooming, but others are completely freaking out. All this brings to mind another famous quote, “May you live in interesting times.” Seriously, ‘interesting’ doesn’t even begin to describe it.

A message from the South Bay YMCA…..
As the U.S. undergoes this massive response to COVID-19, I know you’re well aware that your Y has worked day and night to rise to the challenges. Your investment in the Y has never been more important or urgently needed. If we are around today, we will be here to help our communities tomorrow. Today we announce that we will campaign to raise $3M for the Y’s Emergency Community Impact Fund in response to this pandemic. This comes on the heels of a $1,000,000 matching fund commitment from a member of the Y’s Board of Directors. Beginning today our generous donors will match your investment in the Emergency Community Impact Fund dollar for dollar. Your investment will directly support the many needs stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic, including:
 Child care to first responders, front line medical workers and essential workers
 Grab & Go meals for hungry children
 A shower program for individuals and families who are homeless
 Home delivery of nutritionally balanced meals to home-bound seniors
 Groceries to the food-insecure families who are suddenly out of work
 Hosting life-saving blood drives.
Your support will carry us now through this crisis, and beyond. We cannot shy away when our communities need the Y the most. We are deeply grateful to you for your support of the Y always, and especially now. Please join the Y in this cause and give today at http://www.ymcaLA.org/Emergenc... or contact me at SteveMacAller@ymcaLA.org. Please visit ymcaLA.org to keep up-to-date on how the Y is meeting the fluid needs of the most vulnerable communities during this unprecedented time.
Wishing you the best of health,
Steve MacAller

Although BeachLife Festival has worked hard to secure reschedule dates with the City and with the artists, they feel it would not be socially responsible to announce the reschedule until they have surety. In the meantime, they’re committed to communication and transparency and are fielding every single request for information, clarifications on reschedule, and ticketing refund policies. If you have a question, they will respond within 48 hours. They have limited staff and ask for your patience (normally 48 hours would be way too long!). For those that have inquired, here is the ticketing policy that was in place when your purchased your ticket:

The Redondo Beach Police Department has received inquiries into their current usage of drones for law enforcement purposes. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Department has expanded the frequency of drone usage to assist with reducing the spread of the virus to first responders and the community. The RBPD drone program was originally introduced to the community in March of 2017 and has been widely used at many community events around the City. The current expanded deployment will be evaluated to determine if the use improves effectiveness of overall law enforcement services in our community. A few key points to remember:
1. RBPD has a strict policy for the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (drones).
2. Drones are not utilized for purposes of randomly patrolling/surveilling and are deployed for specific incidents around the City.
3. Drone pilots may only video record for evidentiary purposes and the recordings are retained pursuant to department policy.
4. Per FAA requirements, our drones fly below 400 feet. We have software and hardware restrictions in place to ensure that the drone cannot physically fly below 150 feet above ground level. More often than not, they fly above 300 feet.
5. There are many drones in the air space that are not operated by RBPD. If you spot a drone acting in a suspicious manner or in a manner inconsistent with law enforcement purposes, please call RBPD Dispatch at 310-379-2477 Ext. 2361 and report it.
6. For general questions, contact Captain Jon Naylor, Special Operations Bureau Commander for questions.
