SAN MATEO, CA — Two teenagers were arrested this week in connection with the armed robbery of a liquor store in San Mateo in late May, officials said.

On May 20 at 7:23 p.m., police were called to Palm Liquor at 116 South Boulevard, where a suspect had pointed a revolver at the store's clerk and demanded money, the San Mateo Police Department said in a statement. The clerk gave the suspect cash from the register before the armed man fled the scene.

After reviewing surveillance footage, police were able to identify Redwood City residents Steve Talauati, 19 and an unamed 17-year-old suspect, who was seen in surveillance footage riding in a vehicle with Talauati after the incident.

"Officers were able to trace the suspect’s route after he fled the scene," police wrote. "Surveillance footage showed the suspect and another male driving towards a garbage can located at a nearby hotel. They discarded the revolver into the garbage can, but they later returned and retrieved the revolver from the garbage can."

Talauati was booked into the San Mateo County Jail for robbery, while the unnamed 17-year-old was booked into Hillcrest Juvenile Hall for accessory to the armed robbery.
