6 Suspects Held In Connection With Peninsula Drive-By Shooting

A 16-year-old suffered minor injuries in the shooting according to police.

SAN MATEO, CA — Six alleged gang members were arrested Thursday in connection with a San Mateo drive-by shooting over the summer, police said in a news release.

Multiple shots were fired in the June 25 incident involving rival gangs in the 400 block of Rogell Court that left a 16-year-old with minor injuries, police said.

Ramon Alberto Camacho, 25 of South San Francisco, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, being a driver permitting others to discharge firearm from vehicle, committing crime in furtherance of gang activity and evading police.

Jesus Juarez, 18 of San Mateo, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, vandalism and committing a crime in furtherance of a gang.

Christian Escobar, 28 of Redwood City, was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and attempted robbery.
Luis Maciel, 21 of Redwood City, was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and attempted robbery, vandalism and committing a crime in furtherance of a gang.

Jonathan Mendoza, 18 of Redwood City, was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, attempted robbery, vandalism and committing a crime in furtherance of a gang.

A 16-year-old San Mateo resident whose name was withheld because they are a juvenile was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.

All six suspects were booked into county jail, police said.

“Gang membership plagues this entire country, and San Mateo is not immune,” the San Mateo Police Department said in a statement.

“Although our city doesn’t experience the level of gang activity as other cities, our officers regularly fight these crimes to keep San Mateo safe. A balance of prevention, intervention, and suppression strategies are important for success in any community.

“The San Mateo Police Department understands that children must be engaged to stay out of trouble.”
