Alleged Lewd Contact With Student: Redwood City Man Surrenders

The 39-year-old Nueva School employee, wanted on warrant, is accused of sending lewd texts to a student, 14, officials said.

SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA – A man surrendered in court Friday after a warrant was issued for his arrest for alleged lewd conduct and sending lewd and inappropriate messages to a minor, San Mateo County prosecutors said.

Redwood City resident Ian Whiteman, 39, posted bail Friday and appeared in court at 9 a.m. in Redwood City on charges that he sent the messages and had the contact with a student at The Nueva School, which has
campuses in Hillsborough and San Mateo.

Whiteman pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Prosecutors said Whiteman was working at the school in the technology department. He has been placed on administrative leave from the school, police said.

According to prosecutors, from July 1 to Aug. 22, 2017, Whiteman was allegedly texting the 14-year-old student at all hours.

The girl's parents allegedly found the lewd messages on their daughter's phone on Aug. 24 and notified school officials, who called police.

Police said there is no evidence there are any other victims.

Whiteman is out of custody on $150,000 bail. His defense attorney Joseph Leveroni could not immediately be reached for comment.
